Spring Green at the Oscars - celebrity diamonds

Green has always been a spring color, but it showed up bright and beautiful in leading lady jewels at the Oscars. While celebrity diamonds will never go out of style, they can be paired with very bold colors this season in gemstones like emeralds, rubies, and sapphires. Oscar de la Renta’s fashion show during New York Fashion week epitomized this trend to use big colored gemstones in bold fashion statements for fall 2011, but the trend has already heated up with the appearance of more than one actress showing up on the red carpet with gloriously colorful baubles.

Annette Bening arrived wearing green drop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz. The 66-carat emerald jewels are rumored to be worth $4 million. Celine Dion wore a beautiful statement necklace of 18 carat gold dripping with emeralds and diamonds. Reese Witherspoon also opted for diamond and emerald drop earrings, although probably not worth $4 million. Amy Adams had on a watch, a bracelet, and a necklace with diamonds and emeralds. Her price tag ended up at slightly over $1.25 million in jewels. How did so much green make its way onto the red carpet? Since different jewelers provided the jewels, it is likely that it’s just one of those fashion trends that hits like a flash and takes off on its own.

The It Color

When everyone shows up wearing the same color, it’s going to be a strong trend this season. Other colors like deep reds, blues, and yellows showed up, but green was the dominant theme. Paired with diamonds, emeralds are the classic precious gemstone pairing that makes anyone feel luxurious and like a movie star. Expect to see more jewelry showing up in deep colors as the trend makes its way from the red carpet into the public arena.
